Mega Evolution Pokémon first appeared in the Pokémon TCG during the XY expansion, but they function very differently in the modern Mega Evolution expansion. Previously, Mega Evolving a Pokémon would immediately end your turn unless it had a Spirit Link Pokémon Tool attached.
In addition, classic Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX evolved directly from Basic Pokémon-EX. By contrast, the new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex follow standard Evolution rules, evolving from their usual pre-Evolution Pokémon when applicable. Because of this, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are even more powerful—and when they are Knocked Out, they award three Prize cards instead of two.
